Maria Kastillejof (Santa Coloma de Gramenet, 1995) works through graphic arts techniques that allow her to establish links between the paradox of serialized artistic production and systems of commercial production. Artificiality, fascination with objects derived from industry and pop culture, sociocultural differences, and politics form a recurring background in her practice.
Her work shows an interest in unruly, mistaken, fake, or disruptive objects, playing between involuntary and deliberate error, challenging the concept of originality, and expressing a deep affinity for anti-individualism and communist ideals applied across artistic expression.
Trained as a technician in applied sculpture at EASD Pau Gargallo (2016), she took part in an Erasmus program at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, where she first engaged with graphic arts. She holds a BA in Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Artistic Production and Research from the University of Barcelona. She currently splits her time between production and teaching graphic arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts (UB).
She has participated in group exhibitions at institutions such as Ex Chiesa dei San Carpoforo (Milan), Fundació Felícia Fuster, La Capella Centre d’Art, resident at Fabra i Coats with Sant Andreu Contemporani (2025), EMAD Terrassa, and “Mala herba nunca morre” (A Coruña). She is currently an artist in residence at Casa Aymat (Sant Cugat, 2026).
