Mar Villeyra (Menorca, 2000, lives and works in Barcelona) is a multidisciplinary artist. Her practice operates through the articulation and transformation of visual and non-visual materials, generating new modes of expression that move between image, text, and installation.
Working across digital and analogue photography, printed matter, video, and experimental writing, she incorporates obsolete technologies—such as fax machines and printing presses—as active tools for image manipulation, foregrounding the material and processual conditions of representation. Her work is grounded in an investigation of how digital immateriality can be translated into tactile, sensory experiences that engage the body.
Through layered processes of translation, distortion, and re-inscription, Villeyra constructs speculative narratives that intertwine fiction and memory.
Recent exhibitions include the solo presentation Una Casa amb 3 Ulls (Centre Cívic Guinardó, Barcelona, 2026), and group exhibitions such as El Prisionero de las Nubes (UTOPIA46, Barcelona, 2026), Vida Mort / Mort Vida (Poètiques del Caos) with Enia Mauri (Atica Art Gallery, Menorca, 2025), and Sobretaula (Fabra i Coats, Barcelona, 2023), among others.
Her work has been supported by the Artistic Research Grant from the Consell Insular de Menorca (2025) and residencies including Illes d’Art (Casa d’Artistes / Es Far Cultural, Menorca, 2025) and Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació (2023). Alongside her artistic practice, she is active as a curator and cultural worker, contributing to exhibitions, publications, and festivals such as Menorca Doc Fest.
