Barsa is the name of an exhibition-curatorial project carried out in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat in close connection with the city of Barcelona as a whole, with the aim of connecting local proposals and networks while also maintaining an outward-looking perspective. This initiative is what is known as an artist-run space, that is, a space managed by artists which, as far as possible, seeks to provide the kind of proximity and praxis that every artist desires and often misses when working with private galleries or institutions. Barsa was created to reclaim curatorial practice as an additional dimension fully compatible with the creative process of each of the people involved, thus bringing artists closer to a role that historically seems to have been taken away from them. For these reasons, the Barsa team believes that an initiative of this kind can mark the beginning of a meaningful rapprochement between different fields. A space that encourages artistic dialogue and offers a bridge across certain distinctions that we consider anachronistic. In doing so, it aims to support new communities of emerging artists and propose an exhibition model capable of breaking existing paradigms and reaffirming artists as the rightful owners of their work.
