Hernán Aguirre (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, 1993) is a visual artist. He has been educated at the School of Fine Arts and holds a bachelor’s degree in visual arts at the National University of Tucumán, specialising in ceramics, and concluded the Artists’ Programme at Torcuato Di Tella University. He lives and works in Barcelona.
His practice is based on the assembly of discarded materials, personal archives and objects laden with use and affection, from which he constructs pieces that explore public identities, connections with objects and the artist’s life as a social destiny. In his work, the precarious and the residual are articulated through an aesthetic of fragile luxury, generating tensions between dignity, loss and desire.
He has received the arteBA Award (2018), the Recoleta Cultural Centre Young Artists Biennial Award (2017) and the Creation Grant from the National Arts Fund (2019). He has participated in residencies at Mundo Dios, La Ira de Dios, and Yungas House, and has exhibited at institutions, fairs, and biennials such as arteBA, Bienal Sur, SWAB Art Fair, Feria Ch.ACO and Salón Acme (Mexico).
He is co-director of EX’ sielo, a curatorial project based in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona, focused on the exchange between Argentina and Catalonia.
