Gessamí Olesa (Alcanar, 1993) develops an artistic practice that investigates bodily, territorial and spatial dispositifs through which identities, imaginaries and narratives of belonging are produced. Her work unfolds through hybrid practices oscillating between installation, performance, audiovisual work and archival research, establishing a constant dialogue between body, memory and territory.
In her research, materials such as soil, mesh fabric, ash or textile become active elements that enable processes of transformation and displacement of matter. The artist pays special attention to what is inherited -materials, narratives, gestures or ways of inhabiting- and how these legacies shape ways of seeing, inhabiting and narrating territory. In her most recent projects, territory emerges as a fragmented body, transmitted and subjected to various forms of legal, economic and symbolic pressure. In this sense, the Terres de l’Ebre become a central space of work and thought, from which Olesa questions the narratives that have fixed its images and forms of representation. She understands art as a space of friction, from which to question dominant narratives and activate other forms of presence, connection and transmission.
Her training includes the course “The poetics of the object in performance art” at Escola Brossa with Marina Barsy Janer and Isil Sol Vil (2026), the collective curatorial course “(crear) Situacions” at Arts Santa Mònica (2024), and the higher degree in Applied Arts to the Wall at Escola d’Art i Disseny d’Amposta (2022–2025). Previously, she completed a Master’s in Contemporary Philosophy Challenges (UAB and UdG, 2015–2018) and a BA in Philosophy (UAB, 2011–2015).
Among her recent exhibitions and activations are Sense comissariat (Centre d’Art Lo Pati, Amposta, 2026), Un rebost (2026), a performative action within the finissage of “Abans que desaparegui”, and the exhibition Abans que desaparegui (Convent de Sant Agustí, Barcelona, 2026), where she presents the piece Dins del llindar. She has also developed projects such as Un fang (2025), a performative action for camera, Espai d’aigües (2024), a site-specific intervention in Alcanar, and Ideant una escletxa (2024), a collective final residency exhibition at L’Establia. The trajectory also includes several residencies and research spaces, such as FASE (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, 2026), the Short Film Festival Laboratory of L’Hospitalet (2025–2026) and the Tàndem support grant for emerging artists from CASA R.A.R.O (2025).
