Ana Lucia García Hoefken (Lima, Peru, 1994) received her artistic training at Central Saint Martins in London. She also holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Lima. In 2019 she founded Retorno, a ceramics studio focused on research and practice, through which she travelled across regions of Peru such as Cusco and San Martín to learn traditional techniques and ancestral knowledge. In 2021 she completed a Postgraduate Degree in Contemporary Applied Arts at Escola Massana, further developing her research in ceramics. She is currently an artist-in-residence at La Escocesa in Barcelona and is pursuing a master’s degree in Artistic Production and Research.
Her work proposes a critical reflection on the relationship between the human and the more-than-human, exploring the materiality of the earth and the invisible energies that run through it. Through the dialogue between matter, memory, and the environment, she investigates the qualities of materials using multidisciplinary methodologies that include ecology, geology, chemistry, and physics.
She has exhibited in galleries and museums across Europe, Latin America, and North America, including Revolver Gallery in New York, the Barcelona Design Museum, Sala d’Art Jove in Barcelona, and the ICPNA Contemporary Art Prize in Lima. Throughout her career she has been selected for several artist residencies; she currently works as a resident artist at La Escocesa in Barcelona while pursuing a master’s degree in Artistic Production and Research at the University of Barcelona.
